Sajal Da

I wrote this poem (in bangla) for a student of my dad Sajal da. I know him since my childhood and he is like my elder brother. Sajal da, a professor of Zoology with Ranchi University, is a scholar and an immensely talented man. I share a very unique relationship with him. We always argue and fight over little issues still he is always there for me with his suggestions as a guide and mentor.

This poem is a gift for all the years of togetherness. I hope Sajal da takes this poem in a healthy way. My apologies in advance for this audacious deed. ;-)


Sokal sokal hajir hoye khete chan cha,
Hul fotano kotha bole jaliye den ga,
Hotath gola sedhe othen sa, re, ga, ma, pa,
Bichitro manush ini, Prof Sajal da.

Gyaner sagor, tobu sheje thaken kebla,
Bhaja machhti jeno ulte khete janen na.
Kokhono dari, kokhono clean, nitto notun style
Gomra mukh kokhonoi na, hamesha hi smile.

Chhoto theke dekhchhi sei ekirokom aachen,
Amader khub sneho koren, jotno kore rakhen,
America ghure esheo holen nako mord,
Boron holen gadget freak, Oh my God!!!

Loker sheba korte sobar aage chhute jaan,
Porer bhalo korte diye diteo paaren pran,
Ego-less wonder ini oshadharon guni,
Eta bastob kotha amara bhitor bhitor jani.

Khaddo rosik manush ini, mishtir ini poka,
Khete ini sodai raji, saak posto, dhoka.
Bangali ranna kheteo jodi beshi bhalobashen,
Pizza, chow, dosa keo gondir bhetor rakhen.

Sabdhan theko enar theke, ini bhishon chotur,
Mishti kotha bole tomae kore deben fotur,
Haaste haaste bhijiye maaren, pabe nako ter,
Chiniye dilam dure theko, dekha jodi hoye fer.

Moja kore jayi bolo, makhen nako gaye,
Euric Acid barle enar betha hoye paaye,
Tobuo ini hense beran, ghaman nako matha,
Ini holen shonar manush, Eati iti kotha.

Rainbow

You are the rainbow of my thoughts
You add spark and colour...
You change the glooming, sulking weather
You infuse me with vigour.

You come whenever I need you the most
In the worst of the times...
The news of your magical arrival
Is mellifluous as chimes.

You carry droplets of hopes within
Hopes that we'll be one...
When rays of love touches you
With all your colours you shine.

You are a world away from me
Still I can feel you here...
Oh!! the rainbow of my unpinned thoughts
Far you're yet so near.

I can give away my life for you
You're the one I've ever sought...
I wish the rainbow comes down to earth
To pin down all my thoughts.

A NEW DAY

Its another new day, A bundle of hopes...
Little moments of joy and dreams galore.
Another new breath, A few more to come...
For a life unleashed, The souls's new home.

Its a new present, On the scaffolding of the past...
What happened has passed, The omen wont long last.
Another new pavement, For the way to my goal...
Now I will mould my destiny, Let the time roll.

WO EK PAL

Shaame tanhayi ka wo alam na guzra...
Jab yaad kia us pal ko, jab tune chhua tha,
Zindagi mein jaan dali thi tune...
Wo ek pal, jab tu mera hua tha.

Khata

Ankhon se gir kar bikhar gaya raahon par
Wo ansu nahi shayad sapna tha tera...
Kya khata hui jo tu ruth gaya mujhse
Sapne mein hi sahi, par tu tha to mera...

It rained that day

On a busy cloudy morning
I first met you...
The sun was under the cover of clouds
As you were under the raincoat
It rained heavily that day

Walking hands in hands on a busy lane
The world seemed so busy...
So were we in each other's company
Cloudy was that lazy afternoon
It rained heavily that day too

We made love on the lonely terrace
Slept in each others arms...
The moon shied under the clouds as it left us alone
Those intimate moments were wet and warm
As it rained heavily that night

On the fateful friday I still recall
When you left me and the world...
Time ceased for me in the moments we lived
The rain has witnessed all our seasons
It rained heavily that day too

BUT THE RAINS WERE WITHOUT THE CLOUDS...

All in the name of GOD

We drew boundaries on the land and water
We havent spared the sky
The walls made of hatred, loathe and violence
Too high for one of us to cross....
All in the name of GOD

The book of hatred is the new best-seller
Chapters read over and again
Obsolete are the languages of love and empathy
Sample of humanity is preserved in museums...
All in the name of GOD

Widowed women, Broken bangles, Shattered dreams
Fatherless child and burning houses
The massacre fails to quench the bloody thirst
We hit our head on the wall for more...
All in the name of GOD

The father is one, his children we are
Heartless, brainless, ruthless souls
Without realisation we cut pieces of HIM
No mercy we show as he silently bleeds...
All in the name of GOD

Price

His eyes remained open,

With a ceaseless gleam;

Some hopes, Some desires,

Some unfinished dreams.


The agonized face,

Could say a thousand words;

He was dead for hours,

In a clotted pool of blood.


His pocket had a picture,

Of his wife and little son;

He thought he would see them,

Once the war was done.


He was one of the many dead,

Their stories are never told;

For their families and children,

It is the end of their world.


We live our life in selfish ways,

But have we ever thought;

What price the soldiers pay,

For the life that we have got?

Kabhi khushi, Kabhi Gum

You dont need a reason
To laugh out your heart,
You dont need a reason
To make a good start.

You dont need a reason
To sing songs aloud,
You dont need a reason
To be on ninth cloud.

You dont need a reason
To celebrate joy,
So what if you're a man
You can feel like a boy.

You dont need a reason
To make people smile,
To bring joy to others
Atleast,once in a while.

In the game of life
Hide and seek they play,
If nights are of sorrows
Joys do make the day.

You dont need to worry
'Cos as the wheel spins,
Kabhi khusi,Kabhi gum
It alternately brings.

So dont sulk and worry
If gum you have today,
Believe me and have faith
That khushi is on the way.
